Live Performances: This song was performed occasionally

Written by: Lou Reed

Notes:
The song is a Velvet Underground cover.  It appears on their 1969 self-titled album. It is about a transvestite, Candy Darling, who wants a sex change to become a woman.  He/She died from taking female hormone drugs before ever getting the operation.

Rogers: That was Shannon's idea.  He was really into the Velvet Underground.  We all were all into it but he really wanted to cover the song.  It was one of those things that came together because he started playing it at a show one time and we just kinda filled in.  Looking back on it, it could have been much better.  We did it in a couple of hours in a radio station in Holland.

Lyrics:
Candy says I've come to hate my body
and all that it requires in this world
Candy says I'd like to know completely
what others so discretely talk about
Candy says I hate the quiet places
that cause the smallest taste of what will be
Candy says I hate the big decisions
that cause endless revisions in my mind
I'm gonna watch the blue birds fly over my shoulder
I'm gonna watch them pass me by
Maybe when I'm older
What do you think I'd see
If I could walk away from me
